Update #11: Hurricane "Arthur"

Storm Name:  "Arthur"

Classification:  Category 1 Hurricane

Sustained Wind Speeds:  90 mph 

Pressure:   976mb/28.82 inches

Movement:  NE at 24 mph

Present Location:  100 miles ESE of Ocean City, Maryland

Distance from Broad Channel:  SE 180 miles

Storm's Status:   "Arthur" has weakened to a Category 1 status hurricane and is moving quickly to the northeast. The storm will bring our area some bands of rain today as it passes well east of us and will  encounter cooler gulf stream waters and increased upper level wind shear which will cause "Arthur" to weaken to a post tropical storm tonight or tomorrow.I

Impact in our Broad Channel area:  Minimal

Wind/Rain:  We can expect a cloudy 4th of July with rain and some T-Storms with clearing tonight.

Storm Surge:  None

Coastal Flooding:  A period of minor coastal flooding is possible with this afternoon's 4.9 foot
 high tide at 2:15 p.m.

Surf: NWS has issued a High Surf Advisory from 6am Friday through 6 am Saturday. High surf and dangerous boating conditions around ocean inlets and entrances and a high risk of dangerous rip currents as Hurricane "Arthur" approaches and, thankfully, passes well east of us.
