Dear Neighbor,
On June 26, 2014 I joined my colleagues in voting to adopt the budget for the City of New York for fiscal year 2015. Thanks to years of sound fiscal policy and smart decision making, the Council passed yet another on-time, balanced budget that expands vital city services, without raising property taxes. While the budget is far from perfect, it does include vital funding for senior centers, libraries and after school programs in our district. Veterans in our city will also have have better access to good paying jobs, quality mental health services and free legal assistance when they need it most. If you are interested in finding out how some of your tax dollars are being spent to improve our community, please use the online searchable database below.

Council Adopts New Veterans Initiative
Councilman Eric Ulrich, Chairman of the Veterans Committee, is proud to announce the inclusion of an unprecedented $400,000 in city funding for a comprehensive Veterans Initiative in New York City. Ulrich helped secured this funding to help bridge the gap in care and support for veterans' employment, mental health, and legal issues. It will also address the many needs of a growing and diverse female veteran population in our city, as well as the complex issues returning service-members from Iraq & Afghanistan face on a daily basis.

The Fight for the Ferry is Not Over
Despite the Council's best efforts, the de Blasio Administration has decided not to include any funding for the Rockaway Ferry subsidy in this year's budget. I am extremely disappointed that ferry service may end in October. The fight is not over and I am committed to working with all my fellow elected officials to put pressure on the Mayor to keep this vital lifeline going.

Rain Barrel Giveaway Coming to Rockaway!
Councilman Ulrich is partnering with the NYC Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) to distribute free rain barrels to approximately 100 homeowners in Rockaway on Saturday July 19, 2014.
The rain barrels connect directly to a home's downspout and collect and store storm water. This water can be used over time to water lawns and gardens, saving homeowners money and easing pressure on the city's sewer system. This event is open to Rockaway residents on a first come, first serve basis. If you would like to RSVP your rain barrel, please call (718) 318-6411.

Statement on Spike in Shootings
"New Yorkers deserve to live in a safe city. The rash of gun violence this weekend, leaving three dead and many others wounded, should serve as a wake up call to Mayor de Blasio and his administration. These shootings contradict two decades of crime reduction in our city and make the strongest case for bringing back stop, question and frisk."
