Richard Bernard "Red" Skelton was an American entertainer best known for his national radio and television acts between 1937 and 1971 and as host of the television program The Red Skelton Show.
As a schoolboy, one of Red Skelton's teachers explained the words and meaning of the Pledge of Allegiance to his class. Skelton later wrote down, and eventually recorded, his recollection of this lecture in 1969 - note how he references "48 States" while reciting the pledge. It is followed by an observation of his own.

This recitation is a powerful today as it was 45 years ago!
