Full Menu For BC Mardi Gras Start

By Dan Guarino
The Broad Channel fundraising Mardi Gras season has begun.
Celebrated for more than a century in the island community, each year groups vie to raise donations forBroad Channel organizations.
This year the Broad Channel Volunteer Fire Department is hosting the summerlong series of contests. As in previous years, contenders for such titles as Mardi Gras Mayor, Baby Face, King and Queen, will field all kinds of community fundraising events. Winners are determined by who raises the most in donations.
Mardi Gras is also supported by a friendly but intense competition between the Channel’s Ruffle Bar andGrassy Point Bar and Grill.
This year Chris ‘Bubba’ Kalisak is kicking off his “Bubba for Mayor” campaign in a big way.
Throughout June, he’ll be presenting “Thursday Night Dinners.” Every week a different dinner will be available to eat in, take out or be delivered. Delivery is free in Broad Channel.
Thursday, June 12, featured meatloaf, garlic mashed potatoes and vegetables, from Grassy Point’s kitchen, all cooked by Bubba himself.
Thursday, June 19, chicken parmesan with penne pasta, salad and garlic bread will be on the menu, with Jillian O’Gara as the featured chef.
‘Ray’ will be serving up Irish shepherd’s pie, salad and bread on Thursday, June 26.
Kalisak notes there is also a kid’s menu, which will change every week.
Orders can be placed on Thursdays by calling Grassy’s at 718-474-1688. “We will start taking orders at 4 p.m.,” Kalisak advises, and “delivery will be from 5 p.m. till we sell out!”
The “Bubba For Mayor” campaign will also be hosting two nights of music at Grassy’s. Saturday, June 21, will see Grim Pickens and the High Five going on at 10 p.m.
On Friday, June 27, Solshyne will be bringing on their own special musical mix, also at 10 p.m.
All proceeds will go to the BCVFD, which has served the community for more than 100 years.
Mardi Gras activities extend all summer and wind up with a homemade Broad Channel parade on Labor Day. All the winners and amounts the raised are announced then.
Stay tuned for a summer of fun and fundraising.
