Member of Congress states U.S.A. is 400 years old!

)

This week Representative Sheila Jackson Lee from Texas stated on the floor of Congress that the United States of America has lasted for "...some 400 years, operating under a constitution that clearly defines what is constitutional and what is not."

 For the record, neither the United States of America nor the United States Constitution is "...some 400 years old."

1.  The United States of America is 238 years old as the Declaration of Independence was adopted by the Continental Congress on July 4, 1776,

and

2.  The United States Constitution is 217 years old having been adopted by the Constitutional Convention in Philadelphia on September 17, 1787 replacing the original Articles of Confederation.

It should be noted that, having been born in Queens back in 1950,  Representative Sheila Jackson Lee is a native New Yorker and attended Jamaica High School back when U.S. History was still actually being taught in our New York City public schools.
