Dear Neighbor,
Airplane noise has always plagued our families and communities in southern Queens and Rockaway and while JFK airport is not going away anytime soon, there are ways to mitigate noise and pollution.

Last week, I met with the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and Port Authority to discuss ways to change flight patterns and work to improve the quality of life for local neighborhoods. The meeting provided an opportunity to begin a dialogue that will ultimately give our families the peace of mind they deserve.

Have a great holiday season and a happy and healthy new year!

Stay Strong,

Eliminate Poisonous Thermostats
As the Chairman of the New York State Assembly  Subcommittee on Autism Retention, I strongly urge Governor Cuomo to sign bill, A08084/S01676A, to prevent mercury-contained thermostats from entering New York's waste system. In recent years, medical researchers have found traces of mercury to be linked to autism in children. It is a harmful toxin for all our families and environment and I urge Governor Cuomo to sign this bill immediately to protect the future health of our neighborhoods.
Cleaning Up After Government Agencies
After months of community concerns and government agencies passing the buck, together with my dedicated staff we trimmed trees and cleaned up sand and debris that were neglected after Superstorm Sandy for more than a year.
$400k to Preserve Jamaica Bay
I am proud to announce the Regional Economic Development Council has awarded $400,000 in funding for the Jamaica Bay Habitat Restoration and Waterfront Revitalization. This project will be administered by the NYC Department of Parks & Recreation in conjunction with the NYC Department of Environmental Protection. This award will help restore our wetlands from years of deterioration and damage from Superstorm Sandy as well as provide coastal protection for our vulnerable residential neighborhoods.
