Council President Danny Ruscillo met with the new Chief of Patrol Borough Queens South, Kevin Ward. The new chief is a Rockaway resident. The new chief is instituting the policy of “One Job at a Time” to be handled by each sector car. This should improve the response time for 911 calls. The reason why this is being implemented is so no sector is holding multiple jobs. They are also awaiting approval for a “BLAST UNIT” which would handle only burglaries. He also noted that crime in Queens South is down, the most of any Borough in the City. Also Queens South will be getting more officers sometime in November.

Looking ahead, the Council Chili Contest is coming back and will be held on January 17th at the Knights ofColumbus from 7-10 p.m. The Council already has nineteen contestants. It will be $12.00 and you pay at the door.

The captain encourages all residents to call them with information/ complaints. The community is the eyes and ears of the 100 Precinct.

The “Cop of the Month” award was given to Police Officer Brian Granshaw of the 100th Precinct Anti- Crime Unit, who responded to a break-in at Bayview Ave and Beach 65th Street. P.O Granshaw and his team conducted a search and apprehended a male. This house was unoccupied since the storm. P.O. Granshaw has made 25 arrests this year and is very active in the precinct.

Captain Craig Adel-man addressed many questions from the residents of our community at the last meeting.

In the column for the 100th Precinct Community Council Nov 8th edition information regarding what constitutes “a member in good standing” was incorrect. To be a “member in good standing” it is required to attend four (4) meetings within a year, not three (3).

100th Precinct Community Council To Meet Nov. 20th

The 100th Precinct Community Council will be held on Wednesday, November 20th at 7:30 p.m. at the Knights of Columbus Hall at 330 Beach 90th Street, Rockaway Beach.

On the agenda will be the Cop of The Month Awards to be presented to outstanding officers of the 100th Precinct and Transit District 23rd.

Community Affairs Officer Detective Brian McCabe will speak on the procedure for holding events within the precinct’s area. This will be useful information for the growing number of groups and organizations which are planning an expanding variety of new activities.

Parents, educators, caregivers and others will be interested in what Youth Office Police Office Helen Olagunju has to say on bullying.

The Precinct Council meetings are also a good forum for Rockaway and Broad Channel residents to get involved, ask questions and raise concerns directly with the precinct commander and captain of the transit district. Previous meetings have started a dialogue between communities and the police and gotten issues addressed.

All are invited to attend.

In addition, the Council invites everyone bring non-perishable foods and canned goods to donate and help support the council’s food drive.

Coffee and cake will also be served.
