The Legion Hall, also hit by the storm, had served as an emergency center for months afterwards, providing a contact center for FEMA and other agencies, distributing donations of food, clothing and other supplies, serving hot food and acting as a community and volunteer center.
Despite making renovations before the storm, major rebuilding needed to be done afterward, including replacing all kitchen equipment.
Nearly a year after the last Legion brunch, residents, friends and neighbors were happy to sit down and enjoy a good meal and good company.
While more work continues, the Legion has been steadily resuming regular programs, and it’s looking forward to hosting its annual senior dinner on Sunday, October 6th.
It also hosted the Stop FEMA Now rally, attended by more than 1,000 people, on Saturday, September 28th.
The American Legion hall is located at 209 Cross Bay Boulevard.
