In this week's WAVE - Letters to Editor

Build It Back For Everyone

Dear Editor:
Most of us have received the e-mail from Build It Back. When did it become the Build It Back for underprivileged and people who don't make much money? Is there anyone who signed up who did not go through their life savings, children's college fund, maxed out all of their credit cards and are now in the midst of a financial disaster. I know I can't be the only one. The government approved $60 Billion dollars to help rebuild those damaged by Super Storm Sandy. How do we end up with 3.5 million dollars. Where Is the money? If you take the 23,000 people who signed up and gave each family $20,000., that would add up to $460,000,000 which should not even put a dent in the 60 Billion. We did not wait like they did in Katrina. Those of us who could, did. Some people lost their homes and had to wait, but they are starting now. Why does every aspect of this storm have to be a stressed filled disaster.
Are we not due for one damn break? If you are going to Build It Back, then Build It Back for everyone!

Salute From A DFD

Dear Editor,
Just a quick observation from a DFDer; the most wonderful thing that I admire about that special place called "ROCKAWAY" (and Broad Channel, too) is the resiliency of its citizens. That storm would have brought ANY other city to its knees, and the people would have left!
Well, Rockaway Beach and Broad Channel are still on the map!
Just my 2 cents.....
MATT WHALEN
