We are starting to look into this alternative flood protection measure and will update you within a few weeks.
Tucked away on the west side of the small town of Broad Channel in the middle of Jamiaca Bay is a narrow, dead end, street that goes by the name of West 12th Road. Those of us who live there know that the nice part about living in a small town is that when you are not quite sure what is going on, someone else always does! [Peter J. Mahon West 12th Road, Broad Channel]

This is a great idea and certainly sounds better than raising our houses 12 or more feet but the one thing they do not address in the video is how they deal with plumbing and electrical, would be curious to know this!
ReplyDeleteSo maybe we should all just buy houseboats...?
ReplyDeleteThis is a great idea. Electric is easy as it is overhead. Plumbing could be retrofitted to be flexible or detachable.
ReplyDeleteThree things; 1) I'm told NFIP will not cover buoyant homes, 2) there is a family in Breezy putting this into action in their home, and 3) that there is houseboat community in the Seattle area who have gone to Lloyds of London to underwrite flood insurance instead of NFIP to meet the flood insurance mandated by their mortgagors. This points to a viable alternative for home insurance that should be seriously considered.
