Ten people were hurt
in a violent crash involving multiple vehicles on Cross Bay Boulevard in Broad Channel, Queens Friday evening,
officials said.
A car somehow skidded across the divider, smashing into two
other cars as it split in half. Witnesses told NYPD highway detectives the
driver was going north very fast before veering into southbound traffic.
Of the 10 people taken to local hospitals, three were in
critical condition, officials said. Five people were in serious but stable
condition, and two others had non-life threatening injuries.
For many who live and work in Broad Channel, the evening
accident disrupted the rush hour home. The road was closed for five hours,
forcing many to walk across the North Channel Bridge .
Why is closing access to Broad Channel always the option? They COULD put one lane heading north and one lane heading south on EITHER side of the divider in situations like this. Four hours and two tolls to travel 10 miles --- again. THIS is why no one evacuates because the 'government' finds it SO easy to not allow us into Broad Channel. They need a better solution. Locking residents out of their neighborhoods and homes is not a solution.
ReplyDeletei was there on the bus for about an hour before they let us get off and told us to walk the rest of the way confused and in pain disappointing on how the mta handled everything the bus drivers don't know how to talk to people anymore
ReplyDeleteHaving been an employee of the NYPD for many years, I agree Dr. Kit , they certainly can open at least one of those 6 lanes..... without inhibiting their investigation. Power is often misused , sadly. Once the victims have been removed and the scene is properly secured........one (albeit slowmoving) lane can be re-opened . Sad.
