Change in Bus Serice - Q21 replaced by Q52

Effective at midnight tonight, the Q21 will be cut back to Howard Beach and terminate at 164th Avenue and Cross Bay Boulevard in Howard Beach. The Q21 Limited will become an entirely new bus line – the Q52 – and will run all day from Arverne to Queens Center Mall making limited stops with the Q53, the current Rockaway Park-Woodside limited route.

The Q52 will start in Arverne and terminate at Queens Center Mall.

No changes will be made to the Q53 which will continue to start its run on B116th Street terminate at the Woodside LIRR station.

  1. This is a great ideabecause it will create a greater frequency of bus service for Broad Channel with three limited stops being provided throughout Broad Channel but it does have some downfalls which I will mention below.

Under the above proposal an important bus stop along the northern end of the Broad Channel community located near 3rd Road/Cross Bay Blvd. in front of and across from the American Legion Hall (which serves that hall plus the Call-A-Head business) will be eliminated. I believe very strongly that this bus stop should be retained or reinstated under the MTA's plan and be served by the new Q52 and Q53 bus routes since it serves employees working at the Call-A-Head business plus is available for people commuting off hours to the American Legion Hall for parties, meetings and other important events.

Some other local bus stops that are being eliminated in Broad Channel are at 4th Road/Cross Bay Blvd., Noel Road (in the northbound direction), West 11th Road/East 12th Road, East 14th Road (Northbound only), West 20th Road/East 20th Road. It should now be up to the Broad Channel community now if they want any of these bus stops reinstated and served by the new Q52 and Q53 routes.
