"A" Line Service Disruptions - Sep-Oct-Nov 2011

This is to advise you of weekend service diversions affecting the Rockaway Branch of the A line during Fall 2011.

The service diversions will facilitate the rehabilitation of the elevated structure of the Far Rockaway and Rockaway Park lines in the area of the Hammels Wye and the SouthChannel Bridge.

The structural rehabilitation work requires the full closure of the Rockaway Branch south of the Howard Beach-JFK Station on the September 17-19, October 8-10, October 22-24 and November 5-7, 2011 weekends.

Two free-fare bus routes will provide service to and from the Rockaways between the hours of 12:01 a.m. on Saturday and 5 a.m. on Monday on each weekend:

Shuttle bus No. 1 will operate non-stop between the Howard Beach-JFK and the Far Rockaway-Mott Avenue Stations. 

Shuttle bus No. 2 will operate between the Howard Beach-JFK and Rockaway Park-Beach 116th Street Stations, stopping at Cross Bay Boulevard and Noel Road in Broad Channel and at Rockaway Beach Boulevard’s intersections with Beach 98th Street and Beach 105th Street. 

A special subway shuttle route will operate between the Far Rockaway-Mott Avenue and Rockaway Park-Beach 116th Street Stations, serving all stations on the RockawayPeninsula. 

A line service to Lefferts Boulevard will not be affected by this work.

We will post notices in all affected stations and make announcements on all trains informing customers of these temporary service changes.  NYC Transit personnel will be on hand in order to assist our customers with any questions they may have and to expedite operations.  Notices about the diversions will also be posted on the service advisory page of the Metropolitan Transportation Authority’s website, http://travel.mtanyct.info/serviceadvisory.
