NWS Issues Heat Advisory for Wenesday and Thursday...
THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN UPTON HAS ISSUED A HEAT ADVISORY...WHICH IS IN EFFECT FROM NOON TO 8 PM EDT WEDNESDAY.
A HEAT ADVISORY HAS ALSO BEEN ISSUED FROM NOON TO 8 PM EDT THURSDAY.
* LOCATIONS...NEW YORK CITY.
* HAZARDS...EXCESSIVE HEAT.
* HEAT INDEX VALUES...NEARING 100 IN THE MID TO LATE AFTERNOON.
* TIMING...WEDNESDAY AND THURSDAY AFTERNOONS.
PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...
A HEAT ADVISORY IS ISSUED FOR NEW YORK CITY WHEN THE COMBINATION OF HEAT AND HUMIDITY IS EXPECTED TO MAKE IT FEEL LIKE IT IS AT LEAST 95 DEGREES FOR TWO CONSECUTIVE DAYS...OR 100 DEGREES FOR ANY LENGTH OF TIME. TAKE EXTRA PRECAUTIONS IF YOU WORK OR SPEND TIME OUTSIDE. WHEN POSSIBLE...RESCHEDULE STRENUOUS ACTIVITIES TO EARLY MORNING OR EVENING. KNOW THE SIGNS AND SYMPTOMS OF HEAT EXHAUSTION AND HEAT STROKE. WEAR LIGHT WEIGHT AND LOOSE FITTING CLOTHING WHEN POSSIBLE AND DRINK PLENTY OF WATER.
NEW YORK CITY RESIDENTS CAN CALL 3-1-1 TO IDENTIFY COOLING CENTER LOCATIONS AND TO OBTAIN BEAT THE HEAT SAFETY TIPS.
TO REDUCE RISK DURING OUTDOOR WORK THE OCCUPATIONAL SAFETY AND HEALTH ADMINISTRATION RECOMMENDS SCHEDULING FREQUENT REST BREAKS IN SHADED OR AIR CONDITIONED ENVIRONMENTS. ANYONE OVERCOME BY HEAT SHOULD BE MOVED TO A COOL AND SHADED LOCATION. HEAT STROKE IS AN EMERGENCY...CALL 9 1 1.
AT A MINIMUM...SEE TO IT THAT PETS HAVE ACCESS TO A SHADED AND
