Tucked away on the west side of the small town of Broad Channel in the middle of Jamiaca Bay is a narrow, dead end, street that goes by the name of West 12th Road. Those of us who live there know that the nice part about living in a small town is that when you are not quite sure what is going on, someone else always does! [Peter J. Weekend Storm Update...
Though not a repeat of the Christmas weekend blizzard, disruptive snow will return to the Northeast's Interstate 95 corridor on Friday.
The disruptive snow event will actually get under way across the mid-Atlantic by daybreak Friday.
The snow will then spread northeastward into southern New England through Friday night, becoming heavier in the process.
The snow should total 1 to 3 inches in Philadelphia, but amounts will exceed 6 inches from Oneonta, N.Y., to Danbury, Conn., to central Long Island.
The greatest snow totals will be sandwiched in between the zone of 3 to 6 inches that is in store for New York City and Hartford, Conn.
Friday's snow event will not bring the region to a standstill like the post-Christmas Day blizzard did. Strong winds will not be present on Friday to severely blow and drift the snow around.
Regardless, residents and visitors should prepare for disruptions to travel and daily routines on Friday.
Motorists will become faced with snow-covered and slick roadways, potentially forcing officials to postpone after-school activities. Flight delays will create headaches for airline passengers.
I may be wrong, but after the Christmas weekend blizzard fiasco, I have a feeling that if this snow materializes, Mayor Bloomberg will have his Sanitation Department in the street with buckets to catch the snow before it hits the ground!
As always, a shift in the track of the storm or a change (earlier or later) in its intensification could change this forecast markedly.
