Tucked away on the west side of the small town of Broad Channel in the middle of Jamiaca Bay is a narrow, dead end, street that goes by the name of West 12th Road. Those of us who live there know that the nice part about living in a small town is that when you are not quite sure what is going on, someone else always does! [Peter J. Tomorrow's Snow Storm - Update
A band of heavy snow Friday into Friday night will impact a relatively small area of the Northeast, but this zone includes the New York City area.
The intense band of snow will evolve from an Alberta Clipper that is responsible for the generally light snow showers currently spreading over the Midwest and a broad area of light, but slippery snow coming elsewhere in the Northeast.
Later Friday, the snow will organize into an extremely intense and narrow band that will only be 50 to 100 miles wide (the blue shaded area above). This band of heavy snow will impact a relatively small area of the Northeast Friday and Friday evening, but this zone includes the New York City area. (Note: If this "band" of heavy snow should change track [north or south], snow accumulations will change accordingly.)
Travel conditions in our area should improve late Friday night and Saturday as the accumulating snow shifts to eastern Massachusetts and coastal Maine. In the wake of the snow band, fresh cold air will pour across the entire Northeast on Saturday. Brisk winds will further add to the chill on Sunday.
